Singapore-Flagged Vessel Brings 62,000 Tonnes of Coal for Payra Power Plant

A mother vessel named MV MBS Taisi has anchored at the outer anchorage of Payra Port in Patuakhali carrying 62,100 metric tonnes of coal. The vessel, with a draft of 13.5 metres, sails under the Singapore flag.
The vessel arrived and anchored at the port's outer anchorage at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday (3 November). The coal on board will be used as fuel for electricity generation at the Payra 1,320-megawatt thermal power plant.
The outer anchorage in the deep sea is located about 50 kilometres from the coast. The vessel, 199 metres long and 32 metres wide, departed Tarahan Port in Indonesia on 24 October.
Payra Port Harbour Master Captain S M Sharifur Rahman said the mother vessel arrived and anchored at the outer anchorage without incident on Tuesday night.
He said unloading operations would begin on Wednesday (4 November). After more than half the cargo is unloaded, the vessel will come to the terminal to unload the remainder.
The harbour master added that vessels will now keep arriving one after another and the port will play a role in the development of the country's economy.
