Police have applied to take a 19-year-old woman, a close acquaintance of former Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri, into remand for a further seven days in the murder case filed over his death.

The application was filed in Dhaka's Metropolitan Magistrate Court by the case's investigating officer, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi outpost of the Naval Police's Dhaka region.

State counsel Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter. He said the remand application would be heard in the afternoon. Police produced the woman in court after questioning her during a four-day remand; she had been taken on a four-day remand on 1 November.

Earlier, at around 2am on the night of 31 October, police detained the woman from a house in Ibrahimpur in the capital.

The remand application says the woman was seen going around various places with Tahsif before he went missing. In questioning, she admitted that on the night of 27 October, before the incident, she went with Tahsif to Nest Bar and Restaurant in Uttara, had snacks there, and later rode around different places in Uttara on a motorbike. She gave further important information in questioning, and it is being verified, the application says.

The application adds that, considering the information she gave and other surrounding matters, evidence is emerging that she was involved in the killing, and that she therefore needs to be questioned more extensively.

The investigating officer listed seven reasons why a further remand was needed. They include finding out whether the woman and Tahsif had an emotional exchange or an argument while having snacks at the CP Five Star fast food outlet in the RuAP Complex in Uttara's Sector 18 on the day of the incident, verifying whether they argued at Nest Bar and Restaurant, checking whether their relationship had been strained on the day or before, unravelling the central mystery of the case, arresting the other unnamed accused, recovering evidence, and verifying the statements of the woman and of Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip.

Former flight lieutenant Tahsif went missing after leaving his home in Sector 18 of Uttara in the capital on the evening of 27 October. He had gone out in response to a call from his junior friend Dip.

Later, at around 4:30pm on 28 October, members of the Tongi river police outpost recovered Tahsif's body from the Rajabari Ghat area after receiving reports of a body floating in the Turag River. He was identified through his wristwatch and the iPhone in his pocket.

On the morning of 31 October, Tahsif's father K M Enayetul Karim filed a murder case with Uttarkhan police station in the capital against unidentified persons over his son's death. The case statement says Tahsif was called out of his home by his junior friend Dip.

Dip was shown arrested in the case as a suspect and taken into remand. He was later taken on a second three-day remand, according to the case information.
