A schoolteacher named Runa Laila, 47, has died after being run over by the Rupsha Express train at Parbatipur in Dinajpur. The accident happened at around 11:30am on Wednesday (4 November) in the Rahmatnagar railway colony area, next to the Ganakabar slum, north of Parbatipur railway station.

Runa Laila was a Bangla teacher at Al-Faruq School in Saidpur. Her husband, Abdul Awal, is a teacher in the Bangla department of the Saidpur Cantonment Board.

Local sources said Runa Laila had been seen sitting beside the railway line in the Gulpara rail gate area on Wednesday morning. Noticing her unusual behaviour, several local people asked her to move away from the line.

Later, at around 11:30am, she was killed under the Rupsha Express train. Why she was on the railway line could not be known immediately.

Mahamudun Nabi, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur Railway (GRP) police station, confirmed the incident and said the teacher's body had been recovered. It was sent to the morgue of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
