Mirpur Will Be Built into a Beautiful, Orderly Area, Girls Ideal Foot Overbridge by November 30: DNCC Administrator

Staff Reporter

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan has said Mirpur will be built into a beautiful and orderly area with the cooperation of students and guardians.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (4 November) at the annual sports and cultural programme of Mirpur's traditional Adarsha High School.

The administrator said a permanent solution to all of Mirpur area's long-standing civic and infrastructure problems is possible only through the sincere cooperation and spontaneous participation of students, teachers, guardians and local residents.

Expressing his deep feeling for the school, the DNCC administrator said he always regards Adarsha High School as his own school and has stood beside the school authorities and students in any need of the institution.

He noted that maximum effort was made to resolve the school's various committee-related complications in the past in line with the wishes of guardians and teachers. He also said the city corporation is always committed to preserving the tradition and educational environment of Adarsha High School in a densely populated area like Mirpur.

At the programme, the administrator said that as Mirpur's footpaths have been freed from occupation, ordinary pedestrians, mothers and students can now move comfortably and safely.

He said the work on the foot overbridge in front of Girls Ideal School, which had remained unfinished for a long time, will be completed by 30 November so that students can cross the road without hindrance.

The administrator also said road and footpath renovation work is being implemented quickly to reduce the long-standing traffic congestion and public suffering on the main road adjoining the Mirpur-1 kitchen market.

In guidance to students, the administrator said they must not limit themselves to textbook study alone; they must obey teachers and parents and be attentive to them.

He also urged the young students to build the habit of not throwing litter or chips packets anywhere, but putting them in a designated dustbin or bag.

The administrator said topics related to cleanliness and civic responsibility will be included in next year's textbooks from childhood.

He said that in this huge city of 20 million people, it is extremely difficult for the city corporation alone to keep the roads clean every day or control mosquitoes. That is why, alongside administrative initiatives, citizens must be aware from their own positions and cooperate with the city corporation by throwing waste in designated places to build a clean Dhaka.

The administrator said he had given his word before the election as well and will not leave the residents in the future either. He said any problem of the residents, if within his capacity, will be solved without a second's delay.
