The upazila administration has detained 23 young men and women in a raid on Aqua Theme Park in the Mirzapur area of Birampur municipal town in Dinajpur. The raid was carried out on Thursday (5 November) at noon, and the park's main gate was sealed at the same time.

On Thursday noon, on his way to a government programme, Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain paid a surprise visit to the park. The raid was conducted on his instructions following the visit.

During the visit, the minister found 12 young men and 11 young women inside the park. Seeing the park's environment and various irregularities, he expressed anger and dissatisfaction. He then immediately ordered the necessary administrative action to be taken.

On receiving the news, Birampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanjina Khatun reached the spot and conducted the raid. The 23 young people found inside the park were detained and their guardians were informed.

UNO Tanjina Khatun said action was taken by the administration immediately after the minister's instruction. The guardians of the minors and adults found in the park have been called in. Their purpose for coming to the park is being verified. In appropriate cases they will be released with a warning after a bond is taken from the guardians, and if proof of a specific offence is found, action will be taken under the law.

Administration sources said that on an earlier occasion, too, eight rooms used residentially inside the park were sealed over allegations of irregularities and the authorities were warned. This time, however, the park's main gate has been sealed on allegations that the same kind of activities were resumed in defiance of the administration's instructions.
