Staff Reporter

Md Ismail Jabiullah, a member of the BNP's national standing committee and the prime minister's adviser on public administration, has been elected vice chairman at the 13th general session of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), the largest international platform of Asia's political parties.

The conference is being held at The Shilla Seoul hotel in the South Korean capital, Seoul. Ismail Jabiullah spoke at the first plenary session, jointly conducted by the ruling Minjoo Party and the opposition People Power Party.

In his speech, he called for strengthening democracy, good governance, the rule of law and international cooperation to address worldwide political instability, conflict and a crisis of trust.

Ismail Jabiullah said, 'Democracy is not only an electoral process; it is a social contract of accountability and respect for fundamental rights.'

Expressing concern over the humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East, including Palestine, he demanded that international principles be applied equally to everyone without any discrimination.

He also called on ICAPP to take measures to stop external interference in any country's internal politics, to formulate a common strategic policy paper to address the risks of artificial intelligence (AI), to ensure fairness in climate finance, and to play an effective role in protecting young people's mental health.

Representatives of Bangladesh's BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Jatiya Party and Islami Andolan Bangladesh are taking part in the conference, which runs until Friday.
