Fans Brawl in Stands at Oilers-Devils Hockey Game in New Jersey, Two Ejected

Staff Reporter

Fans brawled in the stands during the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils hockey game at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday night.

The New Jersey Devils won the game 4-3 in a shootout, but the fighting in the stands cleared out several rows.

Video taken from a row or two away shows a man in a camouflage shirt fighting with several fans in the row behind him. His shirt was being pulled up and at one point he was hit in the head with several punches.

At the same time, another fan from a lower row pulled another fan down almost into the lap of the person capturing the footage.

The video does not show what led to the fight. However, a person who said she was sitting next to the man in camouflage responded to the clip and filled in those details.

According to that alleged witness, the men behind them were talking trash about Canada, and the man in camouflage was Canadian.

She wrote that the men kept talking, and the man in camouflage turned around and said that if they kept talking he would beat them and would not care if he got ejected.

According to the witness, they kept chirping and the fighting started. She described it as completely insane and said she had never been so close to something like that.

The witness also said the man who was pulled down was held to the point that he started turning purple, and when he eventually got up he could not breathe. Both were ejected.

The Oilers ended up losing the game that night, and any Devils fans who were tossed would have missed the 4-3 shootout win.
