Hiker who fell hundreds of feet onto a cliff ledge on Utah's Mount Timpanogos is hoisted to safety in video

A female hiker who fell hundreds of feet from the summit of Mount Timpanogos in Utah and came to a stop on a narrow cliff ledge has been hoisted to safety by helicopter. The Utah County Sheriff's Office has released dramatic video footage of the high-altitude rescue.
According to the sheriff's office, the hiker was navigating a trail on October 26 when she fell, sliding down the 11,700-foot peak before coming to a stop on the narrow cliff ledge.
In a social media update, the agency said its Search and Rescue pilot was able to spot the hiker from its airplane as SAR team members began to deploy to the mountain.
The newly released video captured the steep descent where the hiker lost her footing, as well as the moments a rescue helicopter hovered overhead to hoist her to safety.
Officials confirmed on Tuesday that she was making steady progress.
The sheriff's office said: 'We have heard that the hiker is recovering well from her injuries, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery. Thank you to all those agencies that rushed to the rescue. This incident is a stark reminder of how fast a fun outing can turn into a life-or-death situation.'
Located about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, Mount Timpanogos features 17.4 miles of trails accessible via the Aspen Grove and Timpooneke trailheads, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
