Saudi-led coalition airstrike hits market in Yemen's Taiz, 30 killed or wounded
An airstrike by the Saudi-led military coalition on the Al-Waziyah market in Yemen's Taiz province has killed or wounded 30 people. The Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported the strike on Friday (November 6).
Citing local sources, the channel said the casualty figure was preliminary. Rescue work was still under way at the market, and the number was feared to rise.
The source added that warplanes were circling overhead while the rescue work continued.
In a separate report, Al-Masirah TV said heavy airstrikes had also hit the Hamdan area of the capital Sanaa, where two wells were struck. Airstrikes were also reported in the Majz district of Saada province.
Artillery shells and rockets were also fired at other districts of Saada near the Saudi border, according to the report.
Fighting between the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognised government, and the Houthis has escalated sharply in recent times. On Wednesday, Houthi rebels fired a missile at the international airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki also said a drone had been shot down today over the holy region of Makkah.
