Paraguay moves former president Pena to military base for protection
Paraguayan authorities have moved former president Santiago Pena to a military base for his own protection, after a dramatic day in Asuncion.
Earlier, he had been put under house arrest following the collapse of UENO bank. Amid the turmoil surrounding the bank collapse, concern had been growing over the former president’s safety.
Authorities said that, given the situation, keeping him at a military base was considered the safest option. His security will be ensured there.
The decision came after a day of dramatic developments in Asuncion. Tension around the former president had been building since the bank collapsed.
The move from house arrest to a military base marks a new turn in the unfolding events surrounding Pena.
