Salman Khan's Galwan Film 'Matribhumi' to Release on December 4

Staff Reporter

The official theatrical release date has been announced for Bollywood star Salman Khan’s much-awaited new film ‘Matribhumi: May War Rest in Peace’. The film had originally been scheduled for release in April this year, but under the revised schedule it will open in cinemas on December 4.

The film is inspired by the bloody clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. Its working title had been ‘Battle of Galwan’, before the name was later changed.

Salman attended a special teaser launch event for the film in Mumbai on November 6, where he answered a range of questions from the media.

He claimed that reports circulating about reshoots or delays in the film’s production have no basis in reality.

Expressing annoyance at rumours that scenes were changed and the title altered following objections from the central government, Salman said, “All rubbish! This news is absolutely not true.”

Explaining the film’s core subject, he said, “We made the film about soldiers — what situations they go through, what problems their family members face. There is no negative force here. The negative is actually the situation.”

He also dismissed as completely baseless reports of complications over clearance from the Defence Ministry or the censor board because of the India-China border conflict and the geopolitical context.

He confirmed that the film is being brought to the big screen built around a sensitive human context, without any negative propaganda.
