Instructions for Cocktail and Bomb Blasts Coming From Neighbouring Country: Rizvi
BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that instructions for setting off cocktails and bombs are coming from a neighbouring country. The government, however, remains ready to resist such attempts.
He made the remarks to journalists on Saturday morning at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, after paying respects at the mausoleums of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said cocktails and bombs are being exploded here and there from inside alleyways. Instructions for these activities are coming from a neighbouring country. The people will resist these attempts appropriately, and the government is always ready in this regard.
He said the people are observing the activities of various political parties and of those trying to fish in troubled waters. The people will never forgive these things.
The BNP acting secretary general said that after coming to power in 2009, the then government once again took away the people’s rights. The country was pushed into terrible fascism, he said, and a culture of enforced disappearances, killings and secret killings was established. People were afraid to speak and even afraid to walk on the streets.
In such a situation, students, people and workers took to the streets in July 2024 and, through a mass uprising, forced the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the spirit of November 7 lay behind the July 2024 mass uprising. It was with the resolve to protect independence and sovereignty and to ensure the continuation of multi-party democracy that the people of this country joined the July movement.
He said a people’s government has been established through a free and fair election under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. He is working to implement the election pledges, and the BNP government is implementing various programmes, including the Family Card, canal digging and tree plantation.
The BNP acting secretary general said Bangladesh will not fall under the grip of any hegemony. With the commitment to strengthen the country’s sovereignty, the people found their resolve to protect democracy and independence in the November 7 revolution and in the period that followed.
Speaking about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s various programmes, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said he is working to implement the pledges he gave the people before coming to power. He gave no false assurance or promise, he said. Through the Family Card, he has taken the initiative to give extremely poor people the opportunity to stand on their own feet. He began implementing these programmes two to three days after becoming prime minister.
He said that as part of the pledge to dig 20,000 kilometres of canals, 1,000 kilometres have already been dug. Alongside that, an extensive tree plantation programme is running across the country. Besides the BNP, various social organisations are also working on social forestry programmes.
Also present at the time were standing committee member and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, standing committee member and Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, standing committee member and Social Welfare Minister Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain, standing committee member and adviser to the prime minister Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP vice-chairman and chief whip of parliament Md Nurul Islam Moni, Youth and Sports state minister Aminul Haque, and BNP publicity secretary and Fisheries and Livestock state minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator Abdus Salam were also present.
