Learn from past history to build a united Bangladesh, says culture state minister

Staff Reporter

State Minister for Culture Ali Newaz Mahmud Khoyyam has called for learning from past history to build a peaceful and united Bangladesh for future generations. He said people must rise above personal or party interests and give priority to the interests of the country.

He made the remarks as chief guest at a discussion meeting held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday (November 7) at the Rajbari Sadar Upazila Parishad hall, organised on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day with the families of martyred freedom fighters, war-wounded freedom fighters and Bir Muktijoddhas.

The state minister said political stability and mutual cooperation are essential for the country's progress.

He said that 55 years after the war, he very much wants to know how the country is doing and how its people are doing. We live in a restless country, he said.

In his words, no political understanding is forming in this country in any way. A stable political system is not taking shape in Bangladesh. Whoever comes to power forgets, after taking power, the purpose for which they had fought.

He added that even after so many years of the Liberation War, the political unrest and division in the country still trouble us.

Speakers at the discussion highlighted the significance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the contribution of the heroic freedom fighters in the Liberation War, and the importance of unity and solidarity in national life.

They stressed strengthening the spirit of the Liberation War and national unity for the welfare of the country and the nation.

The meeting was attended by members of martyred freedom fighters' families, war-wounded freedom fighters, Bir Muktijoddhas, officials from various levels of the administration, political and social figures, and others. Among them were wartime commander Bakaul Abul Hashem and Sadar Upazila Commander Bir Muktijoddha Abu Taleb.

The core message of the state minister's speech was the call to learn from the past, put the country's interests first, and build political stability.
