Yaser Khan calls on Sheikh Hasina to return home, says 'we will give you the ticket'

Staff Reporter

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury MP has called on former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country after being ousted in the student-people's uprising, to return home and face trial. He also said he would provide her a ticket to return if needed.

The state minister made the remarks as chief guest at a rally organised by the Nandail upazila BNP in Mymensingh on Saturday (7 November), marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Addressing Sheikh Hasina, Yaser Khan Chowdhury said, you killed people and fled, and now you are only shouting on social media. But the people of Bangladesh have understood your shouting. So you must come back to the country now. Not secretly, come right now; if needed, we will give you the ticket.

He said those who, in past years, took away the people's right to vote, engaged in corruption and looting, carried out enforced disappearances and killings, and shed the blood of women and children during the July uprising, will be tried on the soil of Bangladesh. He also warned that fugitives will be brought to the dock in handcuffs.

Addressing local leaders, activists and the public at the rally, the state minister said the country is advancing on the path of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He said those who try to obstruct this progress through conspiracy and disorder must be resisted, and urged people to hand over any suspicious person to law enforcement agencies promptly.

Highlighting various development works in Nandail, Yaser Khan Chowdhury said 186 roads in the area have already been brick-soled to improve connectivity, and funds have been allocated to brick-sole 104 more roads.

He also said grants worth 11.5 crore taka have been brought in for renovating various roads, something no other upazila in Mymensingh has received.

Noting that 36 houses have been given for the rehabilitation of homeless people, the state minister said there are plans to build 104 more houses this year. He added that the construction of the Jahangirpur and Charbetagoir bridges and the buildings of 23 educational institutions are in the process of approval.

On the upcoming union parishad elections, Yaser Khan Chowdhury said BNP-backed candidates will be nominated on the basis of public opinion and surveys. He urged leaders and activists to elect qualified candidates in favour of development and democracy.

Expressing gratitude to leaders, activists and ordinary people who came from various unions and wards, the state minister said he has been working as their worker and wants to continue serving them in future. He said they will remain united in the field of development, on the streets and against all conspiracies.

The rally, held at the local Chandipasha School ground in Nandail, drew a huge gathering of leaders, activists and ordinary people.
