Heavy rain floods 70,000 tents in Gaza, displaced people in severe distress

Staff Reporter

Heavy rain in Gaza has submerged at least 70,000 tents sheltering displaced people. Hundreds of thousands of people sheltering in tents amid the rubble of war now face a new humanitarian crisis.

In just 12 hours of rain, thousands of tents were flooded. Blankets, mattresses and other essential belongings were soaked and ruined.

According to Gaza's government media office, thousands of people have been affected by the rain. Several people were injured, and three abandoned buildings collapsed.

Gaza's Civil Defence said it has received 1,500 requests for emergency assistance.

The families sheltering in tents have already lost their homes to the war. With heavy rain flooding their tents, their suffering has grown worse. With wet blankets and mattresses unusable, many families are now forced to spend the night under the open sky.

Several people were also injured when abandoned buildings collapsed. Civil Defence has received 1,500 requests for emergency help, and the authorities said rescue and relief efforts are under way.
