Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Lalmonirhat on November 19

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Lalmonirhat on November 19 to see the activities of the 'Alokito Lalmonirhat' social movement first-hand, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said.
The relief minister made the remarks as the chief guest at an exchange-of-views meeting with volunteers of the Patgram upazila and municipality levels of the 'Alokito Lalmonirhat' programme, held at the Saheb Danga Stadium ground in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat at 8:30 pm on Saturday (November 7).
The relief minister said that through this movement, Lalmonirhat district will be made free of drugs, gambling, casinos, dowry and child marriage, and Lalmonirhat will emerge as a role model for the whole country.
He said this is not a political movement. The committees of the movement, from the district level down to the union and ward levels, include the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, local leading figures, teachers, imams, students, journalists, players and cultural workers.
The relief minister further said that on July 4, the Honourable President inaugurated this new journey. Within four months, the Honourable Prime Minister is coming in person to Lalmonirhat to see the implementation of the activities. There is no other programme or movement in Bangladesh in which both the head of state and the head of government are directly involved.
The Prime Minister has instructed that a documentary be made on this programme, which will be shown to MPs of other districts and implemented across the country, the relief minister said.
Highlighting the success of the 'Jago Bahe Teesta Bachai' movement, the relief minister said the movement has generated wide discussion at home and abroad. At present, China, the Netherlands and India are jointly interested in working here. The Honourable Prime Minister is also very sincere. The main work of the Teesta mega plan will formally begin in 2027.
Highlighting the importance of social decay and moral education, the minister said building big buildings or schools does not fulfil the purpose of education if drugs are consumed on the school field. Noting that the beauty of character is more important than dress, he directed the volunteers to work on rebuilding society with morality and ideals.
The exchange-of-views meeting at the Saheb Danga Stadium ground in Patgram was chaired by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Rashedul Haque Pradhan. Special guests who spoke included Barrister Hasan Rajib Pradhan, Member of Parliament for Lalmonirhat-1 (Hatibandha-Patgram), Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman, District Council Administrator A K M Mominul Haque and Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farzana Akhtar.
Besides, the relief minister gave various directions to the volunteers of the 81 wards of the eight unions and one municipality of Patgram upazila. During the Prime Minister's visit on November 19, he will see the activities of the 'Alokito Lalmonirhat' movement first-hand.
