New generation must be taught the true history of 7 November: State Minister Sohel Monjur in Pirojpur

Staff Reporter

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Monjur Suman has said that alongside the Liberation War, the spirit of 7 November must also be presented to the new generation. He said it is not enough to tell the new generation only about the Liberation War; they must also be given a correct understanding of the important chapters of the country’s political history.

He made the remarks on Saturday (7 November) evening while speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting, prize distribution and cultural programme organised by the district administration at the Omar Faruk auditorium of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad, marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The state minister said that through the Liberation War we gained a country, a territory and a nation. But nationalism, democracy and multi-party democracy, he said, came through martyred president Ziaur Rahman. At one time democracy had been killed, and he re-established it.

He added that the new generation must be taught correct history. For that, state publicity campaigns are needed in every district and upazila. In particular, those of us who are in the BNP must present the significance of 7 November at the grassroots level. 7 November is an extremely important day, he said.

The state minister said that just as we speak about the Liberation War, we must also speak about the spirit of 7 November. Without 7 November, what the condition of Bangladesh would be today is beyond imagination.

Presenting his vision for the country’s future, the state minister said martyred president Ziaur Rahman dreamed of a Bangladesh through his 19-point programme, and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia later worked to realise that dream. The current prime minister works tirelessly every day, he said.

He said that together with the prime minister, they are working to build a developed, prosperous, humane, equal and democratic Bangladesh, where every citizen can live a good life.

Pirojpur Superintendent of Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman and district BNP member secretary Saidul Islam Kismat attended the programme as special guests. Deputy Commissioner Md. Golam Rabbani presided over it.

Professor Muhammad Shahin Reza, vice-principal of Government Suhrawardy College, delivered the keynote speech. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Naba Gopal Saha conducted the programme.

The discussion highlighted the historical background and significance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day and its importance in the country’s political history. Prizes were later distributed among the winners of various competitions, and the programme ended with a cultural performance.
