The Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, has observed National Revolution and Solidarity Day 2026 with due dignity and solemnity. Mission officials and staff, along with expatriate Bangladeshis, took part in the day-long programme.
On Saturday morning, Ambassador Maleka Parveen formally began the day's programme by hoisting the national flag on the embassy premises, in the presence of mission officials and employees. The flag-hoisting marked the start of the day's events.
In the evening, the second part of the programme was held in the embassy auditorium with the participation of expatriate Bangladeshis. It began with deep respect paid to all the soldiers and patriotic people who took part in the historic sepoy-people's revolution of 7 November 1975, followed by special prayers for the welfare of the country and the nation.
Messages from the President and the Prime Minister on the occasion were then read out. A special documentary on the historic day, produced by the Department of Films and Publications of the Government of Bangladesh, was also screened.
In her closing address, Ambassador Maleka Parveen paid deep tribute to all the patriotic soldiers and people who participated in the historic revolution of 7 November 1975. She said that just as the great Liberation War of 1971 remains our eternal inspiration in national life, the spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day likewise symbolises national unity and solidarity in safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty.
She said the day's core significance lies in the aspiration for national independence, sovereignty, solidarity and the establishment of the people's rights. She noted that national unity, patriotism and the collective efforts of the people are needed to protect and consolidate the independence and sovereignty earned at the cost of millions of lives.
The ambassador added that after Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was freed from captivity on 7 November 1975, initiatives were taken under his leadership, with the people's wholehearted support, to re-establish multi-party democracy, the rule of law, freedom of speech and freedom of the press in the country.
Ambassador Parveen called on everyone to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication to build a democratic Bangladesh enriched with humane values. She urged Bangladeshis living in Bhutan to play an active role in building a developed Bangladesh through their professionalism, honesty and patriotism.
She also requested them to play a positive role in brightening Bangladesh's image on foreign soil and in safeguarding the country's interests.
The day's programme concluded with a collective pledge to build a discrimination-free, democratic, inclusive and prosperous Bangladesh, inspired by the motto 'Bangladesh First', in implementing national unity and solidarity for the sake of the country and its people.
