Mourinho passes Guardiola and Ancelotti for La Liga's best win rate
Real Madrid have fought their way back with an eighth straight win, and in the process their Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, known as "The Special One", has passed everyone else for the best win rate in La Liga.
Yesterday, Real won 3-0 away at Valencia. It was Mourinho's 126th match as a coach in La Liga.
He has won 97 of those matches, a win rate of 77 percent — the highest among coaches who have managed at least 100 matches in La Liga. Spanish statistics expert MisterChip shared the figures.
Second on the list is former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, with 116 wins in 152 La Liga matches, a win rate of 76.3 percent.
Next is Carlo Ancelotti, with 162 wins in 228 matches and a win rate of 71.1 percent. Barcelona's other coach Xavi Hernandez won 69.6 percent of his matches, Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane 67.8 percent, and Luis Enrique 66.4 percent for the Catalans.
Barcelona's current coach Hansi Flick is still above Mourinho on win rate, but he has not yet managed 100 La Liga matches: 69 wins in 87 matches, a rate of 79.3 percent. In all competitions, he has managed 131 matches.
In the match against Valencia, Federico Valverde put Real ahead in the 28th minute. Arda Guler doubled the lead in the 36th minute, and Kylian Mbappe sealed the win in the 75th minute.
In all competitions, this was Real Madrid's eighth consecutive win. Big changes had been made to the squad under Mourinho, but it took some time for the results to come.
The win at Valencia gave Real their eighth win in a row, and put Mourinho at the top of La Liga's history for win rate among coaches with at least 100 matches.
