RAB-2 has arrested Md. Ripon Sikdar, alias Lara (37), a teen gang leader and an accused in 10 cases, from the Tajmahal Road area of Mohammadpur in the capital.

He was arrested in a raid on Saturday night (7 November) on the basis of the force’s own intelligence information.

The information was given in a press release signed by Major M Mubin Rahman Tapas, deputy director (media) of RAB-2.

According to the release, RAB-2 learned from secret information that a known mugger was positioned in the Tajmahal Road area of Mohammadpur intending to commit a mugging. A raid was then conducted there and Ripon Sikdar was arrested.

Preliminary inquiry has found that Ripon leads a teen gang in the Mohammadpur area.

The release said he had long been involved in theft, mugging, drug trading and other criminal activities in the area.

A check of the arrested man’s PCPR found information about 10 cases against him at different police stations across the country, the release said.

Among them are two drug cases — one at Daulatpur police station of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and one at Savar police station in Dhaka. Three cases for preparation to commit dacoity are pending against him at Mohammadpur police station.

There are two attempted-mugging cases at the same police station and one at Mirpur Model police station. In addition, there is a theft case at Shahjahanpur police station of KMP and an extortion case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The release said the process of taking further legal action against the arrested accused is under way.
