EC sets voter-list finalisation timeline: claims and objections by 20 November, final list on 25 November

The Election Commission (EC) has set the timeline for finalising the voter list ahead of the local government elections. Anyone with a claim, objection or correction regarding the list must submit an application by 20 November.
Officials of the EC's election management branch shared the information on Sunday (8 November). According to them, the updated final voter list will be published once the scheduled steps are completed.
Under the voter-list updating rules, a draft list was prepared on 5 November covering people born on or before 31 October 2008 who had registered in the database by 31 October 2026.
The last date for filing any claim, objection or correction application on the draft list is 20 November. The last date for disposing of the submitted applications has been set at 23 November.
The last date for incorporating the decisions taken on the applications for claims, objections and corrections is 24 November. The following day, 25 November, the updated final voter list will be published.
For this finalisation process, 150 officials have already been appointed as revising authorities in the 64 districts and the cantonment areas.
According to the EC, the number of voters in the country at present is 128,777,643.
The schedule for the local government elections is tied to this voter-list work. The EC will conduct the union parishad elections, with voting in the first phase on 21 January.
Voting may be held in 1,000 union parishads in the first phase. The commission will complete the union parishad polls in five phases.
As a result, the Election Commission wants to finish updating the voter list within the fixed timeline before the upcoming union parishad elections. Those who find any error in the list or whose names have been left out will have to submit their applications within the deadline.
