Georgia takes over top spot in AP Poll after dismantling Ole Miss 42-7

The Georgia Bulldogs have taken over the top spot in the Week 10 AP Poll in American college football. On Saturday night, they dismantled Ole Miss 42-7 on the road to claim the No. 1 ranking.
Week 10 featured seven ranked-on-ranked matchups. Five of those seven were won by the favorite. Instead of a weekend of chaos, it became a weekend of teams making statements.
No team sent a stronger statement than Georgia. By beating Ole Miss 42-7 on the road, the Bulldogs earned the No. 1 spot. Both teams threw for 186 yards, but Georgia made all the difference on the ground.
Georgia picked up 295 rushing yards, compared to just 66 yards on the ground for Ole Miss. The Bulldogs dominated both lines of scrimmage.
Georgia has a loss, unlike the two unbeatens, Utah and UCLA. Even so, there is little room for debate about the Bulldogs at No. 1. After what Georgia did to Ole Miss on Saturday night, no one could watch them and not tab them as the No. 1 team in the country.
Notre Dame also had to be rewarded in some fashion. After beating Miami, the Fighting Irish could not stay put at No. 4. They beat the team the same voters had ranked No. 1 in the country one week earlier.
It does not matter that Miami's best player, Malachi Toney, did not play, analysts say. Voters were not going to put both Utah and UCLA ahead of Notre Dame.
Another talking point from Week 10 is the Alabama-Tennessee debate. Both teams are 7-2 on the season. Tennessee beat Alabama by 16 points earlier this season, yet Alabama is ranked No. 7 and Tennessee No. 9.
Tennessee dominated then No. 8 Kentucky 34-6 in Week 10. Alabama, meanwhile, went to Baton Rouge and beat then No. 15 LSU. Tennessee fans have every right to be frustrated — with the head-to-head win, the tiebreaker should go their way.
Texas also plays a part in this mess. The Longhorns beat Tennessee in Knoxville, which is why they sit at No. 8, ahead of the Volunteers.
USC's extra respect from voters is also under question. Last week, the Trojans moved up to No. 18 after beating Ohio State. This week, USC was on a bye, yet moved up three spots to No. 15.
USC's win over Ohio State looks even weaker now, as the Buckeyes lost to Oregon and are now a three-loss team. USC has one notable win — against the now three-loss Buckeyes — and losses to Oregon and Wisconsin. That is not the resume of a Top 15 team.
The real test comes in Week 11, when the Trojans travel to Bloomington to take on No. 6 Indiana in a monster matchup.
Meanwhile, No. 3 Utah remains undefeated, beating No. 9 BYU behind a superb performance from Heisman finalist Devon Dampier.
