Model UN conference held for the first time at the National Parliament's LD Hall
A Model UN conference has been held for the first time at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building. This is the first time such an event has been organised in this hall of Parliament — which is why the conference has received special importance in education circles.
Model UN, or Model United Nations, is an educational simulation of the activities of the United Nations, in which participants sit in the roles of representatives of different countries and practise discussing international issues, debating and passing resolutions.
At such conferences, students get the opportunity for real practice in diplomacy, public speaking, research and negotiation. Model UN is known across the world as one of the most popular means of understanding international politics outside the classroom.
That event has now sat at the LD Hall of the National Parliament itself. This practice by future diplomats, seated in the precincts of the country's legislature, is undoubtedly a memorable experience for the participants.
After the successful completion of this first-ever event, the expectation in education circles is that if such conferences are held regularly, the path for students to prepare themselves in the international arena will widen further.
This first Model UN conference at the National Parliament's LD Hall is therefore being seen not merely as one day's event, but as an occasion that has opened a new door of real diplomatic practice for students.
