Dhaka Premier League to start earlier with more money and new technology, as First Division cricket also gets drone coverage

Big changes are coming to Dhaka's domestic cricket in the new season. The 2026-27 Dhaka Premier League (DPL) is set to roll out in February next year — earlier than usual for the country's biggest domestic competition.

The Dhaka Premier League usually begins in March or April. This time the schedule is being brought forward. According to BCB sources, the next DPL season will start on February 17 next year and end on April 7 of the same year.

A major reason behind the earlier start is that the BPL will not be held. With no BPL, the opportunity has arisen to begin the biggest domestic tournament ahead of its usual slot, sources said.

However, neither the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) nor the CCDM has yet made a formal announcement. Even without that announcement, BCB sources have confirmed the schedule and the plans.

The coming edition will be played across five venues in Dhaka. One additional venue will also be kept ready, so that the schedule can be managed without difficulty if needed.

Financial support for the teams is also rising significantly. In the coming edition, each team will receive Tk 25 lakh from the BCB, up from Tk 15 lakh in the past — an increase of Tk 10 lakh per team.

The CCDM has moved to increase the use of technology. To reduce disputes over umpiring decisions, ADRS is being added to the coming Dhaka Premier League. There are also plans to use drones during matches.

The new facilities are not limited to the Premier League. First Division cricket is set to begin on November 15, with player transfers taking place earlier, on November 4 and 5.

Drone use will also feature in the coming First Division cricket. Officials said the technology is being added to make domestic cricket more modern and competitive.

Altogether, the new season brings Dhaka's domestic cricket an earlier schedule, more money, more venues and modern technology at the same time. The plans will take final shape after the formal announcement, which clubs and cricketers are now awaiting.
