Land Minister Minu, Ill with Anaemia, Taken to Dhaka for Advanced Treatment at PG Hospital
Land Minister Md Mizanur Rahman Minu, who was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital suffering from anaemia, has been taken to Dhaka for advanced treatment. He is scheduled to receive treatment at Bangladesh Medical University, known as PG Hospital. Concern has grown among his colleagues and well-wishers over his condition.
On Thursday (22 October) at around 8am, he was taken by ambulance from the hospital to Rajshahi's Shah Makhdum Airport. From there, arrangements were made to fly him to Dhaka. He remained under doctors' supervision throughout the journey from the hospital to the airport.
The land minister's APS, Nazmul Haque Dicken, confirmed the information. He said the minister had been feeling unwell for the past few days. When his condition deteriorated on Wednesday morning, he was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. As part of his treatment there, he was given three bags of blood.
Doctors are treating anaemia as the main cause of his illness. After initial treatment in Rajshahi, the decision to take him to Dhaka was made in view of the need for closer monitoring and better facilities. The decision was taken with the agreement of his family and doctors.
Even in illness, the land minister has stayed in contact with party leaders and activists. From his hospital bed, he has been giving necessary directions to local BNP leaders and activists in Rajshahi about carrying out their responsibilities. Despite his physical weakness, this activeness in organisational work has drawn colleagues' attention.
His schedule the day before he fell ill was also busy. On Tuesday, Mizanur Rahman Minu attended a public rally at Rajshahi's historic Madrasa field. The very next day, as his condition worsened, he was admitted to hospital. He had previously travelled to Singapore for treatment as well.
The land minister has asked the countrymen to pray for his recovery. In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, he wrote that he is ill and seeks prayers from the beloved people of Rajshahi and the whole country, so that Allah grants him recovery and he can quickly return to public service. After his post, well-wishers also wished him recovery on social media.
After news of the land minister's illness spread, concern appeared among political colleagues and well-wishers. BNP leaders at district and metropolitan level and leaders of its associate organisations rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital to see him. They inquired about his physical condition at the hospital.
On Wednesday night, responsible figures of various political parties and organisations, including metropolitan Jamaat and the National Citizen Party (NCP), also went to the hospital to see him. They prayed for his quick recovery. Beyond political differences, this presence of leaders from different parties beside the ailing land minister presented a picture of mutual goodwill.
After reaching Dhaka, his further treatment is scheduled to begin at Bangladesh Medical University. There, under the supervision of specialist doctors, his necessary tests and treatment will continue.
Colleagues and well-wishers are now waiting for an improvement in his physical condition. His latest condition is expected to be known from the next health bulletin from the hospital and his family.
