Elderly Fazle Ali Dies after Punch Attack in Lakshmipur's Kamalnagar, Dies on Way to Dhaka

In Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur, a young man named Md Mahfuz has been accused of killing an elderly man, Fazle Ali Hazari, 60, with punches and blows. Seriously injured in the scuffle, he died on the way to Dhaka for treatment.

On the night of 22 October, a scuffle broke out between the two in front of Idris Member's shop at Battali Bazar in Char Kadira Union of the upazila. Fazle Ali was injured in that scuffle.

The deceased Fazle Ali was a resident of the Hazari house in Ward 6 of Char Kadira Union. The death of the 60-year-old man has cast a shadow of grief over the area.

The deceased's brother-in-law Ayub Ali described the background to the incident. He said that about a year ago, the son of another brother-in-law of Fazle Ali, Yusuf, married the daughter of Jamal Hossain of the same area.

According to Ayub Ali, that marriage had come from a love relationship. Later, the marriage ended in divorce on the basis of mutual understanding. In other words, both the marriage and the divorce happened with both families' knowledge.

But recently, the girl's side objected that the boy's side was circulating their daughter's photos. Ayub Ali said fresh tension arose from that objection.

According to Ayub Ali, when Fazle Ali went to the spot over that issue, he was attacked at the instigation of Nazim Hawlader and Faruk Majhi of the girl's side. At that time, random punches seriously injured Fazle Ali.

He was later rescued in an injured state and admitted to Noakhali General Hospital. After initial treatment there, as his condition did not improve, it was decided to take him to Dhaka for better treatment.

But he died on the way before reaching Dhaka. The family said he died on the road from the hospital towards Dhaka.

On the other hand, Charfalkan Union Parishad member Nazim Uddin Hawlader said that even after his niece was married elsewhere, Delwar circulated her intimate photos on social media. An attempt was made to settle the matter.

According to Nazim Uddin Hawlader, at one stage of the argument Mahfuz punched Fazle Ali. The elderly man later died on the way to hospital. Both sides' accounts mention the punch and the death on the way.

Kamalnagar police station Officer-in-Charge Faridul Alam said the elderly man's body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy. The family has been asked to file a case. The next steps in the incident will now proceed through the autopsy and case process.
