IGP Md Ali Hossain Fakir Launches Police Tree-Planting Drive at Police Headquarters

Staff Reporter

Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir formally launched a Bangladesh Police tree-planting programme on Monday morning by planting a sapling in the courtyard of the Police Headquarters at Fulbaria in the capital.

The programme has been taken up by the police as part of a special national initiative announced by the prime minister to plant 250 million trees across the country over the next five years, organisers said.

Senior officials of the Police Headquarters were present at the inaugural event, and the planting at the headquarters courtyard marked the start of the force-wide drive.

Under the programme, saplings will be planted in a planned way in empty spaces at every administrative unit of the police, regional police barracks, residential areas and office premises across the country.

Fruit, timber, medicinal and ornamental saplings of different varieties have been selected for planting, according to the organisers.

They said the main aim of the initiative is to consolidate the natural balance of the environment and increase the national forest resource, contributing to implementation of the prime minister's declared programme.

The activity is also being carried out to encourage members of the police as well as the general public to join greening and tree-planting efforts nationwide, they said.
