Father beaten to death in Sreepur's Saitalia village, son on the run
A young man has been accused of beating his father to death with a stick in Saitalia village of Sreepur upazila in Gazipur. The incident took place at dawn on Monday (26 October). The deceased was Abdus Samad. The accused son, Anwar Hossain, has been on the run since the incident.
According to the family and local sources, Anwar Hossain had been in dispute with other family members over money for drugs and family quarrels. Locals said that on the night before the incident he returned home intoxicated and got into an argument with family members.
His father Abdus Samad stepped forward to bring the situation under control. According to the allegation, at one stage an enraged Anwar struck his father on the head and chest with a stick, leaving Abdus Samad seriously injured.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead. Immediately after the incident, the accused Anwar fled the house.
On receiving the news, police went to the spot, recovered Abdus Samad's body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Necessary evidence was also collected from the scene.
Sreepur police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Shahinur Alam said an operation is under way to arrest the accused Anwar. The deceased's family is preparing to file a case.
