Bangladesh reach two finals at Asia Cup archery in Sulaymaniyah, Kazakhstan await in both
Bangladesh have reached the finals of two events at the Asia Cup World Ranking Archery tournament under way in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. In both gold-medal matches — the men's recurve team event and the women's compound team event — Bangladesh will face Kazakhstan.
Six countries took part in the men's recurve team event. Under the initial draw, Bangladesh received a bye in the first round and went straight into the semi-finals, where they beat Uzbekistan 6-0 in set points to secure a place in the final.
In the other semi-final of the event, Kazakhstan defeated hosts Iraq 6-2 in set points to reach the final. Bangladesh are represented in the men's recurve team by Abdur Rahman Alif, Md Sagar Islam and Rafi Abdullah.
Only four countries took part in the women's compound team event, so play began directly at the semi-final stage. Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka 233-219 over four sets in their semi-final.
In the other women's compound semi-final, Kazakhstan and hosts Iraq were level at 217 after four sets, sending the match to a tiebreak. Kazakhstan beat Iraq 29-27 in the tiebreak to reach the final.
Bangladesh's women's compound squad consists of Banya Akter, Sripanya Biswas and Kulsum Akter Moni.
Under the tournament schedule, the women's compound team final will be held on 28 October. The following day, 29 October, Bangladesh will face Kazakhstan in the men's recurve team final.
