After years of helping to produce the Super Bowl halftime show, rapper Jay-Z will now perform on that stage himself. He has been announced as the headline act for the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show.

After days of speculation, the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced on Monday night that Jay-Z will be the featured performer for the halftime festivities at Super Bowl LXI on 14 February at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The 56-year-old rapper said in a statement: 'From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey. Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.'

Jay-Z's Roc Nation has partnered with the NFL since 2019 to advise on and help produce the league's entertainment presentations, including the Super Bowl halftime show.

At the time, Jay-Z had told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that if the matter was about him performing at the Super Bowl, the conversation could end there.

Goodell said on Monday that the NFL had wanted Jay-Z to perform for years. He said: 'When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn't be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage.'

Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has won 25 Grammy awards and received 89 nominations, the second-most in history behind his wife Beyoncé, who has performed at two Super Bowls. His albums include Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint and The Black Album, and his hit songs include Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem), 99 Problems and Empire State of Mind, his collaboration with Alicia Keys.

His 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame last year. He co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and founded Roc Nation in 2008. He became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.

Bad Bunny performed at last season's Super Bowl in February, bringing on special guests including Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Jessica Alba, Karol G, Cardi B, Young Miko and Pedro Pascal. The Puerto Rican superstar's songs saw sharp gains across streaming charts, playlists and music discovery platforms in the hours following the show.
