'Mohila' replaced by 'Nari': government issues gazette bringing the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs' new Bangla name into effect

Staff Reporter

The government has published a gazette renaming the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in Bangla from 'Mohila o Shishu Bishayak' to 'Nari o Shishu Bishayak Mantranalaya'.

A government notification in this regard was issued and the gazette published on Monday (October 26). The notification says the new name will take effect immediately.

According to the notification, the Bangla name of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh's ministry has been changed to 'Nari o Shishu Bishayak Mantranalaya'. Its English name, 'Ministry of Women and Children Affairs', has been kept unchanged.

The notification was issued by the ministry's secretary, Dr Rowshan Ara Begum, by order of the President. It states that the decision to change the name is to be implemented immediately.

Earlier, on October 18, a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman approved the proposal to change the ministry's name. Following the cabinet's approval, the decision has now been formally brought into effect through the notification.

As a result of the change, the ministry's new Bangla name will need to be used in government documents, official correspondence, notifications and related activities. As the English name remains unchanged, there will be no change to the ministry's identity or name in English.

The ministry plays an important role in the development, protection, establishment of rights and welfare activities for women and children. The decision to change its name has been implemented through cabinet approval followed by the government notification.
