Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, on a four-day official visit to Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, joined a luncheon hosted in his honour on Tuesday (October 27). The luncheon was held at the Kantei, the Japanese prime minister's office in Tokyo.

The luncheon was hosted at local noon after the bilateral summit meeting and a joint press conference. Tarique Rahman's wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, was present at the event.

Before the luncheon, the scheduled top-level bilateral meeting between Bangladesh and Japan took place. At the meeting, the two prime ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, expand trade and investment, and increase cooperation in important sectors.

The two prime ministers also exchanged views on various regional and international issues at the summit.

Earlier, Sanae Takaichi welcomed Tarique Rahman at the Kantei. A contingent of Japan's armed forces presented the Bangladesh prime minister with a guard of honour.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Tokyo on Monday morning. He was welcomed at Narita International Airport by Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yasutaka Nakasone.

The summit meeting, joint press conference and luncheon were all held as part of this four-day official visit undertaken at the Japanese prime minister's invitation.
