Kishoreganj: After Human Chain Protesting Imran's Killing in Pyarabhanga, Accused's House Set on Fire, Three Houses Burnt
In Pyarabhanga area of Maria Union in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila, an angry crowd vandalised and set fire to the house of Abu Kalam, accused in the killing of a young man named Imran (38). Three houses, including the homestead, were burnt in the fire.
The incident took place at around 10:30am on Tuesday (27 October) in the Pyarabhanga area of Maria Union in the Sadar upazila. The fire is estimated to have caused losses of several lakh taka.
Earlier, at 10am, local residents formed a human chain at the Notun Jailkhana Mor area on Kishoreganj Bishwa Road protesting Imran's killing. They demanded the swift arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing.
Participants in the human chain demanded a proper investigation of the incident, the swift arrest of accused Abu Kalam and his associates, and the maximum punishment for the guilty. They chanted slogans demanding the hanging of Imran's killers.
Local sources said that on Monday night (26 October) in the Pyarabhanga area, Imran got into an argument with Abu Kalam over demanding a due of Tk 2,400. At one point Imran was seriously injured by stabbing. He was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased Imran was the son of the late Abdus Shahid of Madhya Katiarchar area in Maria Union.
Tension prevails in the area following the vandalism and arson at the accused's house over the killing.
Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiya said no case has yet been filed over the killing. At around 9am, Imran's people formed a human chain at the Jailkhana Mor area, and after it ended they returned home without any disorder.
The OC said that half an hour later police learned that accused Abul Kalam's house had been set on fire. Police went to the spot and brought the situation under control, and the situation is now normal.
He said no one has yet been arrested in connection with the killing.
