Shanto on batting coach change before West Indies series: No problem adjusting to Salahuddin
Bangladesh have changed their batting coach before the two-match Test series against the West Indies. Mohammad Ashraful has lost the role, and Mohammad Salahuddin has been given the batting coach's duties for now. Speaking at a press conference the day before the first Test, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the change would not cause the team a problem in adjusting.
Bangladesh and the West Indies will play the series under the World Test Championship. The first Test starts on Wednesday at 10am at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. On the day before the home series, Shanto faced questions about the coaching change.
Bangladesh have suffered batting failures recently. In the tri-nation one-day series in the United Arab Emirates against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, Bangladesh lost both matches because of batting failures. After that collapse, batting coach Mohammad Ashraful lost his role. The Bangladesh Cricket Board then gave Mohammad Salahuddin the batting coach's duties for now.
On Ashraful, Shanto said he had enjoyed working with every coach and that Ashraful had been there for about a year. In the time he worked, he did good work. He was experienced and helped the players learn many things, Shanto said.
On Salahuddin, who has taken the new responsibility, Shanto said the incoming batting coach had been in the dressing room only recently, so there would not be much of an impact. Shanto has worked a lot with him in the past. He does not think there will be any problem with the matters of adjusting to the coach.
Shanto added that Salahuddin, who is working now, is doing good work and has done good work in the past as well.
