Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal has said the investigation into the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi has produced information linking former army officer Ziaul Ahsan and cultural personality Rokeya Prachi. He gave the information to journalists on Tuesday (October 27) after presenting the investigation's progress report in the High Court.

The Attorney General said the state side presented the report in court on the basis of information obtained through the prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal.

He also said about 300 CDs were among the documents seized from former army officer Ziaul Ahsan's residence in Barishal. The high-level taskforce needs more time to examine those thoroughly and prepare a complete investigation report, he said.

However, the Attorney General commented that the emergence of information about involvement does not mean direct involvement in the crime has been proven. He also noted that the court's next proceedings will be important for the final decision.

On Tuesday, the relevant High Court bench held a hearing on the progress of the investigation. After the hearing, the court extended the deadline for submitting the investigation report until April 29 next year.

On the night of February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were murdered in their rented home in West Rajabazar in the capital.

After a case was filed the next day at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, the investigation passed from the police and the Detective Branch (DB) to the RAB on the High Court's order. Later, on September 30, 2024, the court removed the RAB from the investigation and ordered the formation of a high-level taskforce under the Home Ministry. That taskforce is now conducting the investigation.
