The Islamic University unit of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has distributed nine deep freezers to the university's nine residential halls for students. The organisers said the initiative was taken to make students' daily lives more comfortable.

The distribution programme was held in front of the university's administration building at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday (27 October).

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Motinur Rahman was the chief guest at the programme, chaired by unit Chhatra Dal convener Masud Rumi Mithun and conducted by member secretary Rafiz Ahmed.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Emtaz Hossain and Treasurer Professor Dr Idris Ali were special guests. Mahbub Alam Shah, adviser to the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, attended as guest of honour, and unit Chhatra Dal senior joint convener Anwar Parvez was a special speaker.

Provosts of different residential halls, teachers from different departments, leaders of the Zia Parishad, UTAB, the officers' association and the employees' association, and more than two hundred leaders and activists were present.

Unit Chhatra Dal convener Masud Rumi Mithun said the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal is working across Bangladesh for a safe and education-friendly campus. He said today's programme was only for the students of Islamic University, and the organisation would do its utmost for student welfare.

Mithun sought cooperation for student welfare from guardians, former leaders and the university's alumni. He said Chhatra Dal would stand beside students in their logical movements and has always stood beside students in difficulty.

Guest of honour Mahbub Alam Shah said he hoped Chhatra Dal's activities around students' logical demands would play a role not only at this university but at all educational institutions in the region. He spoke of playing an effective role irrespective of party, opinion, religion and caste.

In his speech as chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Motinur Rahman said Chhatra Dal's programme was praiseworthy and an example. He said a university is a place of free thought, where people of different opinions and paths will be present, along with different creative student organisations.

The Vice-Chancellor added that if other student organisations take this work as an example and work for general students, a positive change will come to student politics in Bangladesh.
