'Crossfire' Remarks by the IGP Were Not Right, Government's Position Is Zero Tolerance: Home Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has rejected the remarks on 'crossfire' by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir. He said the government does not want crossfire; rather, the government's position on this matter is zero tolerance.
On Tuesday (27 October), in a message on the minister's verified Facebook page, the home minister said the IGP's remarks on crossfire were not right. He commented that the government's position on this matter is zero tolerance.
Noting that the IGP had said such a thing inadvertently, the home minister said, 'This was not right, it should not have been said.'
In a statement to the media on Tuesday evening, the home minister further said the government will not tolerate extrajudicial killings and deaths in police custody in any way.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed also said that establishing the rule of law and improving law and order are the government's main priorities.
