Woman Held at Gunpoint in Broad Daylight in Chattogram's Rauzan, Tk 25 Lakh Meant for Land Purchase Snatched

A woman named Shamsun Nahar has allegedly been robbed of Tk 25 lakh in cash at gunpoint in broad daylight in Rauzan, Chattogram. The money was meant for buying land.
The incident took place at around 10:30am on Tuesday (27 October) in the Baruapara area of the Kadolpur Natunhat link road in the upazila. According to the victim, an armed gang of eight to ten men who arrived on two motorcycles and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carried out the robbery.
Shamsun Nahar is a resident of Ward No. 8 of Kadolpur Union in Rauzan. She was carrying Tk 25 lakh in cash in her bag as she travelled to the sub-registry office to register the land.
She said a motorcycle pulled up in front of their CNG auto-rickshaw and blocked its path. Two men from another motorcycle then got down and snatched the auto-rickshaw's key and the driver's mobile phone. When the driver tried to resist, one of them drew a pistol from his waist. Two more men arriving on another motorcycle then snatched her bag of money at gunpoint.
In a tearful voice, Shamsun Nahar said: 'I kept telling them — kill me, but don't take my money. But they took all my money. It was my younger son's hard-saved money. I was going to buy land with his money. Now I don't know what I will do.'
The robbery in broad daylight has caused a stir across Rauzan. Condemning the incident, Barrister Tarek Akbar Khondkar, convener of the central executive committee of the Khaleda Zia Smriti Sangsad, said: 'Such an incident is not acceptable in any way.'
