In Sripur, Gazipur, Nahid Islam Urges No Negligence in Treatment of Disabled July Fighter Bappi

Visiting Md Bappi, who was permanently disabled in the July movement, at Beraiderchala in Sripur upazila of Gazipur, National Citizen Party (NCP) convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam said the government needs to pay attention so that administrative and bureaucratic complications do not cause negligence in the treatment of July fighters.

Nahid Islam made the remarks in reply to journalists' questions when he went to Bappi's home at 8:30pm on Tuesday. NCP northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam was present with him at the time.

Nahid Islam said this government is the fruit of the July mass uprising. In his words, this election became possible and the government coming to power became possible because of the sacrifices of thousands of people, their loss of limbs and their disabilities.

Calling for special government attention to the injured, he said the government should keep its attention on these injured brothers and sisters above politics and everything else, and that no administrative or bureaucratic complication should cause negligence in their treatment.

Nahid Islam also said financial assistance, rehabilitation, family support and social and political protection are needed for the injured. He remarked that what is possible for a party, much more is possible for the state.

Noting that many works were done during the interim government, he said the government now needs to look after those works.

Addressing the current government, Nahid Islam said: 'They are the heroes of this country. Because of their heroism Bangladesh became independent for a second time. Whatever we can do, whatever we dream, has become possible because of them. Let us never forget them. They may not get a healthy life back for the rest of their days. As a state and as a people, we must stand beside them.'

NCP joint convener Ali Ahsan Junayed, Dhaka divisional north organizing secretary Saidullah Haydar, assistant organizing secretary Shawkat Ali, science and technology secretary Engineer Nabila Tasnid, executive committee member Ali Naser Khan and Gazipur district NCP convener Abu Rayhan Mezbah were present at the event.
