Visiting disabled July fighter Bappi in Sreepur, Nahid Islam urges no negligence in July fighters’ treatment

Staff Reporter

National Citizen Party (NCP) convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam has drawn the government’s attention to ensuring that administrative and bureaucratic complications do not cause negligence in the treatment of July fighters.

He made the call on Tuesday (October 27) at 8:30pm while visiting Md Bappi, who suffered permanent disability in the July movement, at Beraiderchala in Sreepur, Gazipur.

NCP chief organiser for the northern region Sarjis Alam was present at the time.

Nahid Islam said this government is the outcome of the July mass uprising. He said the election and the government’s coming to power were made possible through the sacrifice of thousands of lives and through people losing limbs and becoming disabled.

He said the government’s attention should remain on these injured brothers and sisters above politics and everything else, and that no administrative or bureaucratic complication should cause negligence in their treatment.

Nahid Islam also said the promises of financial assistance, rehabilitation and social and political protection for their families need to be fulfilled. He said the government and the state can do far more than any single party.

He said much work had already been done during the interim government’s time; now this government only has to look after those efforts.

Calling on the current government, he further said they are the heroes of this country and that Bangladesh became independent for a second time because of their bravery. He said whatever can now be done, and whatever dreams are being seen, are possible because of them.

He said they may never regain normal health for the rest of their lives, so as the state and the people, everyone must always stand beside them and never forget them.

Also present were NCP joint convener Ali Ahsan Junaid, Dhaka divisional northern organising secretary Saidullah Haider, assistant organising secretary Shaukat Ali and NCP science and technology secretary Engineer Nabila Tasnid, among others.
