Cyclone Arnab's effects reach Bangladesh: signal 3 at four seaports, signal 1 at river ports

The effects of Cyclone Arnab, which struck India's Andhra Pradesh coast, have begun to reach Bangladesh's coastal districts as well. The Meteorological Department has asked Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to hoist local warning signal number 3.
The department said deep convection is forming over the north Bay of Bengal under the cyclone's influence. Gusty or squally wind may sweep over the seaports, the north Bay and adjoining coastal areas.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been asked to stay close to the coast and move cautiously until further notice.
India's weather office said the cyclone's landfall process began at 1:20am on Tuesday. It made landfall near Yanam of Puducherry, close to Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, with winds of 125 to 135 kilometres per hour gusting to 150 kilometres per hour.
In a warning for the country's inland river ports from 5:30am to 1pm today, the department said rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty or squally wind at 45 to 60 kilometres per hour from the south or southeast may sweep over Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar regions. River ports in those areas have been asked to hoist warning signal number 1.
The forecast issued from 6pm today for the whole country says rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty wind may occur at many places in Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions and at one or two places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
The forecast also says day and night temperatures across the country may fall slightly.
