Apple Launches M6 MacBook Pro and iMac, MacBook Pro Prices Start at $1,999

Staff Reporter

Apple has launched a MacBook Pro and an iMac powered by its new M6 chip. The company says the new chip brings faster performance than the previous versions as well as added benefits for using artificial intelligence (AI).

Apple claims the M6 chip's graphics performance is up to 30 percent higher than the previous-generation M5 chip, and AI-related work is up to 25 percent faster. Photo editing, video creation and various AI-based tasks will therefore be completed more quickly.

The new MacBook Pro will offer up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, Apple said. It can run various AI models directly on the computer, so AI work will not always depend on an internet connection.

AI use has also been improved on the new iMac. According to Apple, on-device AI work on the M6 iMac can be done up to five times faster than on the M4-chip iMac.

The new MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and the iMac's starting price is $1,499. Pre-orders for the two devices will be taken in 35 countries and regions from 28 October, and they will be available from 6 November.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg, citing technology analyst Mark Gurman, reported that Apple may unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro at the 28 October 'Pro and Tell' event. Apple has not yet given any official information on this.
