150 Children Join Environment Education Programme and Poster Exhibition at Dhaka Ideal Cadet School

Staff Reporter

A poster exhibition and environment education programme titled 'Save Birds and Medicinal Plants, Ensure Climate Justice' was held at Dhaka Ideal Cadet School to make children aware of climate disaster. About 150 children took part.

The programme was jointly organised by the Institute of Wellbeing Bangladesh (IWB) and the Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust (WBB Trust).

Present at the event on Tuesday (27 October) were Dhaka Ideal Cadet School founder and head teacher M A Mannan Monir and WBB Trust chief programme manager Syeda Ananya Rahman.

The poster exhibition presented local birds, medicinal plants, biodiversity conservation and the impacts of climate change. A discussion and a quiz competition were also organised.

Through this event, the children learned about plastic pollution, deforestation, the habitats of birds and trees, and the causes and effects of climate change.

At the event, M A Mannan Monir said that if children learn to understand their relationship with nature from childhood, they will be able to play an important role in protecting the environment as responsible citizens in future. He noted that hands-on learning would bring lasting change in their behaviour.

Speaking for the organising bodies, Syeda Ananya Rahman said climate change is now the biggest challenge for Bangladesh. If children are given environment education, they will be able to lead in tackling the climate crisis as aware citizens in future. She also commented that environment education is not just a textbook subject, it is a philosophy of life.
