Bangladesh were in a good position towards the end of the first day of the Mirpur Test against the West Indies. Before play was stopped because of bad light, Bangladesh had reached 207 for 3 in 70 overs.

Sadman Islam was unbeaten on 96. Liton Das was with him at the crease, unbeaten on 7.

In the third session, Tawhid Hridoy was batting with Sadman. Together they built a partnership of 80 runs off 168 balls.

In the 65th over, Hridoy suddenly lay down on the field. After taking a run with Sadman, he sat down beside the crease and the team physio came onto the field. After initial treatment, he recovered somewhat and resumed batting.

But Hridoy could not last long. In the 65.5th over, after taking a single off Joshua Bishop, he sat down again. This time he was seen in pain, holding the area below his left knee.

In the end, the batter was taken off the field on a stretcher. He left the field retired hurt after scoring 42 runs off 84 balls. Liton Das came in to bat in his place.

Play for the day was then stopped because of bad light. The report said play was set to resume at 4:10pm Bangladesh time.

The first day therefore brought two kinds of experience for Bangladesh — a good position with the bat, and Hridoy leaving the field with an injury.
