Md Sajedul Islam, finance secretary of the Naogaon Sadar Upazila unit of the BNP, has been expelled from the party. A party notice said the decision was taken over allegations that he was involved in anti-state and anti-social activities.

The expulsion was announced in a press release signed on 20 October by Sh M A Al Kafi Tuhin, general secretary of the Naogaon Sadar Upazila BNP.

The notice said the party would not bear responsibility for any misdeed by the expelled leader. Leaders and activists at all levels under the Naogaon Sadar Upazila BNP were also instructed not to maintain organisational relations with him.

The press release did not, however, give specific details of the allegations against him. It referred only to anti-state and anti-social activities.

General secretary Sh M A Al Kafi Tuhin said police had arrested Sajedul Islam over those allegations and sent him to jail, and that was why he had been expelled. He said the party would not take responsibility for an individual's crime.

Attempts were made to contact the expelled leader, Md Sajedul Islam, but his comment could not be obtained, according to the report.
