IEDCR director beaten inside his office: Jamaat amir calls it a black chapter in medical service history

The director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) was beaten inside his room after attackers entered his office, according to an allegation raised on Wednesday. The incident at IEDCR took place at 11am on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman reported and condemned the incident in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon (28 October).
In the post he wrote that, according to sources, workers of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), an organisation of pro-BNP doctors, created a mob and carried out the incident.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said incidents are happening one after another. The wounds of the vandalism and looting at Radda Medical Centre are still fresh. In that situation, he commented, the leaders and workers of DAB, the doctors' organisation of the ruling party, created a black chapter in the history of Bangladesh's medical service through Wednesday's incident.
He wrote in the post that if such a mob can be created recklessly in broad daylight even among a specialised, highly educated section of society, as happened at IEDCR at 11am, one can imagine which way the country is heading.
The opposition leader also wrote that this is undoubtedly an act of transgression, audacity and criminal conduct.
He demanded a proper investigation and trial over the incident. Without that, he said, the fragile health service will not be able to stand up in any condition.
