Myanmar's representative to the United Nations, Kyaw Moe Tun, has urged member states to 'stop their silence on our suffering' and help end the crisis in the country.

Kyaw Moe Tun was appointed as the country's UN ambassador before the democratically elected government was ousted in 2021. In his emotional appeal, he said the international community had 'failed the people of Myanmar again and again.'

During his speech, Moe Tun held up a scarf bearing the names and ages of Myanmar's 'fallen heroes and innocent civilians.'

His appeal had two central points — that member states should break their silence and that they should help end Myanmar's crisis. He said the international community had failed the country's people again and again.

Kyaw Moe Tun's remarks came while he continues to represent Myanmar at the United Nations as the ambassador appointed by the government that was ousted from power in 2021.
