Dhaka Ranks 11th Among World's Most Polluted Cities Today with AQI of 141
According to data from international air-quality technology firm IQAir, Bangladesh's capital Dhaka stands 11th today on the global list of cities with polluted air. On Thursday (29 October), Dhaka's air quality index was recorded at 141.
That level is considered 'unhealthy for sensitive groups'. Under the air quality index scale, a score between 101 and 150 is considered risky for the health of children, the elderly and people suffering from respiratory diseases.
According to the published list, Pakistan's Lahore tops the ranking of the world's most polluted cities with 287 points, in the 'very unhealthy' range. India's capital Delhi is second with 222 points.
The next places are held by Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan (196), Hanoi of Vietnam (181) and Tashkent of Uzbekistan (179).
Also on the list are Jakarta of Indonesia (174), Karachi of Pakistan (160), Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam (155), Baghdad of Iraq (154), and India's Mumbai in 10th place with 146 points.
With the air rated 'unhealthy for sensitive groups', children, elderly people and asthma patients are being advised not to go outside unnecessarily. Experts are urging them to wear a mask if they must go out for essential reasons.
