Towhid Hridoy, Carried Off on a Stretcher, Is Now Fit and Ready to Bat on Day Two of the Mirpur Test
Towhid Hridoy had to be carried off on a stretcher on the first day of the first Test against the West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. But there is relief for the hosts — the right-handed batter has recovered and is ready to bat on the second day.
Hridoy was forced to leave the field on a stretcher, unbeaten, after suffering cramp in his leg while batting. That raised the question of whether he would be able to bat again in the first innings.
According to a reliable source, Hridoy has recovered. Before the start of play on the second day, Thursday, he was seen batting in practice for a long time, and his body language indicated that he is ready to come out to bat.
At the press conference at the end of the first day, batting coach Mohammad Salahuddin had said of Hridoy: 'Hridoy had cramp. I think he will be fine overnight. He will be able to bat again tomorrow (today).'
Hridoy got his place in the eleven because Mushfiqur Rahim is absent with a finger injury. The experienced star's absence has placed a big responsibility on his shoulders.
Bangladesh ended the first day on 213 for 3. Play ended early after several interruptions for bad light; only 74 overs were bowled.
Opener Sadman Islam finished the day unbeaten on 99 — just one run short of the second century of his Test career. Sadman will resume the second day's batting with Litton Das, and the recovered Hridoy will be ready to come in if needed.
