Two sisters have been killed after being hit by a covered van while walking with their mother in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh. The dead children are Arabia, 8, and Rabia, 6.

The accident happened at around 6am on Thursday (29 October) in the Pashchim Taldighi area on the Mymensingh-Sherpur highway.

Arabia and Rabia were the daughters of Mokhlesur Rahman of Pashchim Taldighi village.

Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station, said Fatema Akter had left home in the morning for her work as a domestic worker, with her two daughters accompanying her.

The officer said that as they walked beside the Mymensingh-Sherpur highway in the Pashchim Taldighi area, a Mymensingh-bound blue-and-yellow covered van hit them from behind and drove away.

Both children died at the scene. Their bodies were later taken to hospital.
